Cité Ardente
Luik, Belgium / 2025
Diverse and raw cityscapes enriched with elegant and modern structures make the city of Luik very appealing for architects and photographers. So much to see, varying from worker's class neighbourhoods to spacious campus from the University on the outskirts of the city. Ruled by the river Maas, the land has been split in two. Historically grown along the river banks, the city of Luik has gradually expanded in all directions, which leads to a diversified urban landscape on a hilly terrain. The city is continuously looking for remediation between it's industrial past and contemporary ambitions.
One of the most iconic architects with a mark on the city has to be Charles Vandenhove. His wide portfolio varies from industrial to vernacular sites throughout multiple, widespread neighbourhoods. His characteristic language defines impressive spaces with eye for detail in a brutally honoust & refined way.
Industrial citadel
Miles Away.
To heaven.
For whom the bells.
From the shadows.
