Remnants of an industrial past alternate with pristine forests and fertile farmland at every turn. The water-veined landscape and hillsided topography had a profound impact on the events and evolution that took place in a recent past.
Medieval ruins, a multitude of Christian memorials, war cemeteries and rustic factories stand in sharp contrast to the humane scale of the villages, the lonely sense in the forests and the peacefull farmsteads. At some places, where history marked itself, it seems that time stood still.
